Kill Ugly Radio Episode 04.19.11

April 20, 2011

Almost everything played tonight came from Record Store Day. Although I actually cheated and bought everything the day before, because, if anything, I am an iconoclast. Lots of crank call stuff, some John Trubee, people crank calling Portland OR Christian station KPDQ in the 90’s, and lots of Porest and Bee Mask.

  1. thank you for your record day play~ ! The BOMB! Great UGLY!

tell me if you are interested in selling some of those records you bought! I have been looking for them. Or I could trade you for the Musee Mechanique Record I made, perhaps.

I bought on Record Store Day as well.

    Sincerely yours, M

  2. Oh, M! As much as I’d love to oblige, I am afraid I am in vinyl horde mode – having had to part with a large chunk of my collection a few years back (a long-term storage disaster).
Most were pretty easily found, though. I fortunately live within the Portland, OR environs and all of the unique and great record stores that are tucked in weird little boroughs in and around town. Many were also found on Discogs Marketplace, too. While my pockets aren’t deep, budgetwise, I usually draw the line at 10 – 12 bucks for weird but not rare records, but have been known to lapse from time to time and splurge on something irresistible. But I must say, as collectors and most radio folk I know, my collection is pretty mundane. Slowly, it’s getting respectably weird, though.
    Hope you understand.

    • oh, Chardman! I understand the vinyl whore mode!!! i too, gave away my finest discs, many moons ago, for rent money. If you ever come across DUPS of yours at a record store or thrift store in portland area – please email me and perhaps we can work something out. As i said I made the musee mechanique record and thought you may appreciate it as a fine addition to your trove. Thanks again for playing the most WONDERFUL ugly on your show of shows! So happy to see/hear your good ears!!! sincerely yours again, M

  4. Thanks so much for all the Trubee. I haven’t heard this for years. It was an influential staple when I was a teen.
